master bedroom

Host: Michael Sheridan

"Charm, Comfort, Affordability"

Big Cozy: Sometimes nicknamed the “Queens Room”, this master bedroom is the largest of the three guestrooms. It had a king-sized bed and a his-and-hers closet. The furnishings are cottage style from the mid-1800’s, and art of that period grace the walls, including two original paintings of the Hudson River school. The blanket chest at the foot of the bed is 17th century English oak, and may be used to hold luggage (not as a seat).

Cozy Junior: Adjacent to the Master bedroom is a smaller room similarly decorated. It may be used as a suite with the master bedroom. This room contains an antique four-poster bed for one person, a large Empire chest of drawers with generous storage space, and a small “ship desk” where personal necessities may be kept.

greene roomLittle Green Cozy: This is the smallest, but perhaps the most charming of the three guestrooms. It contains an antique “Three-quarter” bed, graced with a handsome quilt made by local artist, Donna Miller, and a small triangular closet with shelves. It is also the sunniest of the rooms, giving a lovely view of the center of the village of South Otselic. Both this and “Cozy Junior” contain the odd features common to octagon houses, the triangular closets and the pie-shaped dimensions. They also are decorated with original oil paintings of local scenery by the host, Michael Sheridan.

Set-a-Spell: Although still not renovated, the Guest Sitting Room invites relaxation. There is an overstuffed recliner and a rocker. Watch movies with over 150 titles to choose from (or bring your own videos and DVDs). Play board games available in the jelly cabinet. Get cozy with a book, or other reading material, including the local history and the book, “The Octagon Fad,” by Carl F Schmidt. There is a coffee bar with locally roasted coffees as well as tea and hot cocoa. All this is presided over by Martha Washington, represented in a reverse-glass painting attributed to the primitive artist, William Matthew Prior.
